Malaysia draws a large number of travelers from Taiwan every year. The warm mix of cultures, dramatic landscapes, and food people crave keep them coming back. As travel rules have eased, visitors from Taiwan can enjoy visa-free entry with little fuss, whether they are exploring Kuala Lumpur’s modern city feel, walking Penang’s cultural streets, or spending time on Langkawi’s beaches.
Preparing to enter Malaysia
Malaysia visa
Travelers with a Taiwan passport have had 30 days of visa-free entry since 2015. The passport only needs to be valid for more than 6 months to enter Malaysia smoothly. If the stay is longer than 30 days, apply for a tourist visa in advance. At immigration you may be asked for a return ticket and USD 100 per day in living expenses, or equivalent proof of funds, in case of a random check. Prepare the documents ahead of time so entry goes smoothly.
A Malaysia data SIM
When you travel in Malaysia, keeping up with the latest travel news and having unlimited data matters for most people today, and an eSIM is one of the best answers! Not swapping a physical SIM card, and getting online wirelessly as soon as you land, is the setup most people prefer. Many travelers also go between Malaysia and Singapore—how do you connect the two countries seamlessly with one eSIM?
Unlike other eSIM shops in Taiwan, Holafly offers Malaysia and Asia eSIMs where you choose the number of days. Buy only the days you travel, so a fixed-length plan no longer gets in the way.

Malaysia arrival card, MDAC
Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (Malaysia Digital Arrival Card, or MDAC) is the arrival card every foreign traveler must complete, starting in 2024. You can fill it in online within three days before arriving in Malaysia. It is meant to simplify immigration and keep travelers’ health information accurate. Once submitted, MDAC generates a personal PIN to use at entry. Fill it in early and save the file so you can clear faster.

Malaysia entry rules
Malaysia limits some items travelers may bring in, especially cash and food:
- Cash limit: the total cash you carry must not exceed USD 10,000. Above that amount, declare it to customs.
- Food limits: meat, vegetables, and fruit are all prohibited. Other food must not exceed RM 150 in total value (about NT$1,052).
- Alcoholic drinks: on entry, each person may bring up to 1 liter of alcoholic drinks.
- New items: no more than 3 new garments, and no more than 1 pair of new shoes.
You also need to show a return ticket, or a ticket onward to a third country, and have proof of funds ready for a random check. With that prepared, you can enter smoothly and start the Malaysia trip with less hassle.
Malaysia’s varied travel experiences and straightforward entry rules make it a popular choice for travelers from Taiwan going abroad. Learn the visa rules and how to fill in the MDAC arrival card, follow the entry rules, and you can explore this tropical country with less friction.
If you are planning Malaysia, or a multi-country trip in Asia, do not forget a solid unlimited data plan. Holafly’s Malaysia eSIM or Asia eSIM plans both let you enjoy unlimited data for the number of days you choose, and share photos whenever you like along the way.
