If the option is missing, the device may lack eSIM or still be locked.

Arrival checklist (Narita / Haneda / Kansai)
- When phones are allowed, enable the travel eSIM

- Load a light webpage, then Maps
- Then trains or chat

Day-of travel and in-flight notes
Before boarding, confirm the travel eSIM is listed, clearly named, and you know which line to enable for data. Keep the QR/order email accessible if your plan allows revisiting it.
You usually cannot finish a first Japan network attach in the air—that’s normal. Don’t delete and reinstall the profile repeatedly in airplane mode. Enable data after landing when phones are allowed.
On dual-SIM phones, pre-assign data to the travel eSIM and SMS to the home SIM before takeoff so arrival is mostly flipping switches—not hunting menus at baggage claim.
