Once you step off the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, you will probably face the same question: “The hotel shuttles are complimentary, so can I take any of them?” In fact, these are shuttle services run by individual hotels, not Macau public buses. The shuttles and shows by a lake or in a lobby for which the official websites do not sell separate tickets generally require no additional ticket. The cable car, Ferris wheel, and The House of Dancing Water are separate paid attractions.
Want to avoid circling from hotel to hotel? Start by separating the complimentary and paid options: take a hotel shuttle to Cotai for the Performance Lake, then decide that day whether to pay for the cable car or Ferris wheel. Each hotel has a different policy on riders who are not staying there, so asking the staff while you queue is the quickest approach. For ways to enter Macau from Hong Kong, see our guide to the Golden Bus, TurboJET, and Cotai Water Jet.

First, know what does not require a ticket
| Option | Price shown during this check | What to note |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy–Border Gate route | No separate fare listed on the timetable page | About 09:00–23:30, every 5–15 minutes on average |
| Performance Lake | No separate admission listed on the official website | Every 30 minutes by day and every 20 minutes at night |
| Tree of Prosperity | No separate admission listed on the official website | Rising show 19:00–22:00, every 30 minutes |
| Cable car | Check your hotel booking confirmation | Closes at 22:00 at the latest from Sunday to Thursday |
| Figure-8 Ferris wheel | Standard ticket MOP 100 | 14:00–20:00; check the monthly calendar for closure days |
| The House of Dancing Water | Gallery seats from MOP 698 | Not the same show as the Performance Lake |
| Public bus | Standard fare MOP 6 | Hong Kong Alipay and WeChat Pay do not receive transfer discounts |
In short, plan the shuttles and outdoor shows first, then pay for a ticketed attraction only if you really want to ride or see it. The complimentary options are the specific items in the table, however; not every form of entertainment inside a hotel is free.
Hotel shuttles are not Macau-wide public buses
What travelers often call “fortune buses” are complimentary hotel shuttles. At the boarding area, you will find different colors, signs, and destinations for each operator. A Galaxy bus will not take a detour to Wynn, and a Venetian Macao bus will not suddenly switch to Studio City. Confirm the hotel name first, then find that operator’s bus so you do not discover after a long wait that you are heading the wrong way.
Another common mistake is assuming that a timetable without a fare means every non-guest may board. Some routes ask for proof of a hotel stay, while others allow passengers to queue directly at the port. Ask the staff when it is your turn; if you cannot board, switch immediately to a public bus or taxi.
Galaxy: Border Gate, airport, ferry terminal, and bridge
If you are entering Cotai from Border Gate / Portas do Cerco, the airport, Taipa Ferry Terminal, or the Macau Port at the bridge, Galaxy’s timetable is especially useful. The ranges below appeared on the page on October 17, 2026. Galaxy shuttle bus
| Route | To Galaxy | From Galaxy | Approximate interval | Approximate ride |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Border Gate / Portas do Cerco | 09:00–23:30 | 09:00–23:30 | 5–15 minutes | 25 minutes |
| Taipa Ferry Terminal | 09:00–23:00 | 09:15–23:15 | 15–40 minutes | 20 minutes |
| Airport | 10:00–21:00 | 10:15–20:45 | About 35 minutes | 20 minutes |
| Macau Port at the bridge | 10:00–23:00 | 10:00–23:00 | 10–25 minutes | 25 minutes |
| Hengqin | 09:00–22:00 | 09:15–21:45 | 5–10 minutes at peak times; about 30 minutes from 17:00–22:00 | 10 minutes |
Between Galaxy and Andaz, the official website lists two-way service at about 09:00–02:00, every 5–10 minutes on average. That is a hotel-to-hotel route, not a pickup from a port. StarWorld Hotel to Border Gate / Portas do Cerco runs about 09:00–23:30, every 10–15 minutes on average. StarWorld or the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal to Galaxy runs about 09:30–22:00, every 10–20 minutes on average, with a ride of roughly 35 minutes.
The community leisure shuttles are easier to miss because they do not run every day, and their operating days, weekends, and departure times may change. On the day you plan to ride one, open the Galaxy shuttle page and check whether that route has departures listed.
Sands, Wynn, and Melco each manage their own routes
Venetian Macao, Parisian, and Londoner are all Sands properties, but their shuttles follow a separate system, and the official website generally posts a current timetable. Some Taipa Village services operate only on specified days. If you rely on a weekend screenshot on a weekday, you may find an empty stop, so download and consult the current timetable.
Wynn is also easy to mix up because there are two properties: Wynn Macau is on the peninsula, while Wynn Palace is in Cotai. Their own shuttle connects them, with departures listed on Wynn’s shuttle page. Studio City and City of Dreams also have separate shuttle pages; do not board simply because you see the Melco name.
Check the times for the Performance Lake and cable car
The Performance Lake is at Wynn Palace in Cotai, so do not look for it on the peninsula. The official website lists shows every 30 minutes from 12:00–18:00 and every 20 minutes from 18:00–24:00 daily. Hotel guests can also watch from their rooms or restaurants, but dining and the cable car are separate. Performance Lake schedule
The cable car runs above the lake. It operates 16:00–22:00 Sunday through Thursday, with the last cabin at 21:40, and 16:00–24:00 Friday and Saturday, with the last cabin at 23:40. Each cabin seats six. If you booked a room or package, check your confirmation directly to see whether it is included. Cable car schedule
The Tree of Prosperity is on the peninsula, not by the Cotai lake
The Tree of Prosperity is at Wynn Macau on the peninsula, not at the Wynn Palace lake. It is on display from 12:00–18:50, with a rising show every 30 minutes from 19:00–22:00. If you are in Cotai after the Performance Lake and also want to see the tree, you need another transfer; it truly is not just across the street. Tree of Prosperity schedule
The photo above dates from 2008. The tree remains, but its lighting and surroundings have long since changed. Use the image only to recognize “the illuminated tree in the lobby,” not to judge when or how long it lights up today.
The Ferris wheel and The House of Dancing Water both require tickets
Studio City’s Figure-8 Ferris wheel requires a ticket. A standard ticket costs MOP 100. During this check, the page said children under 2 may ride free with identification. Children aged 12 or under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over. It is on Level 3 of the East Wing and opens 14:00–20:00; the ticket office is open 13:30–20:00. See the monthly calendar for closure days. Ferris wheel prices and hours
The themed cabin has a different price. The page lists MOP 688 from April 29 to November 1, 2026, with a further 10% member discount; this is separate from the MOP 100 standard ticket. Characters on the cabins are on-site merchandise, not a sponsored recommendation from this website.
The House of Dancing Water is at City of Dreams. It is a ticketed theater production, not Wynn’s lake. Gallery seats cost MOP 698, premium seats MOP 898, grand seats MOP 1,098, VIP seats MOP 1,298, and VVIP seats MOP 1,598; boxes are also available at MOP 28,000 and 38,000. The page says members pay 85% of the standard ticket price. The House of Dancing Water prices
How to find your stop after arrival
- After immigration, look first for the name of your hotel. Cotai is large, and following only a “Cotai” sign can put you in the wrong queue.
- Ask whether non-guests may board this service. If not, take a public bus or taxi instead; do not wait at the stop until the final departure.
- The return boarding door is often different from the arrival point. Before setting out, note which hotel exit the return service uses.
- Leave some time before the last departure. Galaxy’s Border Gate route was listed until 23:30 during this check, but not every operator runs that late.
How to plan one day without backtracking
If you are staying in Cotai, see a daytime Performance Lake show in the afternoon, then decide in the evening whether to pay for the cable car. If the Tree of Prosperity is a must, include the trip back to the peninsula. Do not put it immediately after the Ferris wheel and arrive expecting the hotels to be a 2-minute walk apart.
If you are staying on the peninsula, seeing the Tree of Prosperity at night is easier, followed by a shuttle to Cotai for the lake. Buy the Ferris wheel and The House of Dancing Water separately. To minimize transport costs, keep just the shuttles, lake, and tree, and skip both paid attractions entirely.
When to switch to the MOP 6 public bus
If the shuttle schedule does not work, stop waiting and use a public bus as your backup. During this check, the Transport Bureau listed a standard fare of MOP 6. Approved stored-value cards cost less, and fares are not identical on every route. Students pay half fare; seniors and passengers with disability cards ride free. Children under 1 meter tall also ride free when accompanied by an adult. Transfers are generally allowed within about 45 minutes, extended to 60 minutes when crossing between the peninsula and Coloane. Macau public bus fares
The page lists mainland Chinese and Hong Kong Alipay and WeChat transit codes at MOP 6 per ride, without a fare reduction or transfer discount. Macau-based electronic payment methods offer pricing closer to a stored-value card. If you have a Taiwanese credit card, carry cash or a local Macau payment option as a backup.
While you wait, mobile data matters more than the lobby
Wi-Fi at waiting areas, ports, and hotel entrances often requires registration, and the signal may drop just as the queue moves—exactly when you need to check the stop. If you are visiting both Hong Kong and Macau, choose a plan whose product page explicitly covers both. JEKO offers daily data for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, total-data plans for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau, and unlimited data for mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau; the unlimited page explains speed reductions and fair-use rules. If you are only visiting Hong Kong and Macau, compare whether you need data that also covers mainland China. For planning your arrival from Hong Kong, see our first-time Hong Kong itinerary.
Data-only plans generally do not include a local phone number and cannot receive text messages, so keep another SIM available for verification codes.
- Install the eSIM while you have Wi-Fi, then activate it at the time specified for your plan so the validity period does not begin early.
- Select the travel eSIM for mobile data and disable unnecessary data switching so your Taiwanese line does not take over.
- If the order says to enable data roaming or set an APN, follow those instructions.
- Take screenshots of the return stop, hotel address, and ticket QR Code. See the eSIM installation guide for setup steps.
Check these before leaving
- Write down your port or ferry terminal first, then check the last shuttle from that operator.
- Record the Performance Lake, Tree of Prosperity, and cable car times separately. Non-guests should ask again about the cable car.
- Check the Ferris wheel’s monthly closure calendar. Use the current official price for The House of Dancing Water, not an old early-bird fare.
- Carry cash or a confirmed payment method for public buses; do not rely on one untested Taiwanese card.
- Casino entrances have age restrictions. The shopping mall and lakeside do not share the same entrance, so read the signs before entering.
