- Data-only: mobile data only—no traditional voice number / carrier SMS.
- Native eSIM / native IP: uses the local network and a local-like exit IP. This does not automatically include a phone number. Many native plans are still “data first”; calls/SMS may need eKYC or a number add-on.

What is a Data-only eSIM?
Data-only means internet access for maps, translation, ride-hailing, and apps like LINE/WhatsApp. It usually has no dialable local number and cannot receive traditional carrier SMS unless you also keep your home SIM. For most sightseeing trips, that is enough.
How do I call and get SMS / OTP?
1. App calling (standard for Data-only)
Use LINE, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype, and similar over data.
2. Keep your home number for OTP (recommended)
- Mobile data → travel eSIM
- Calls / SMS → home physical SIM
Do not remove your home SIM just to free a tray if you still need banking/hotel OTP SMS.
