“Can a China eSIM use ChatGPT—and will LINE, Google, Gmail, and Instagram still work?”
There is no single yes/no. Different carriers and egress IPs on “China eSIM” products behave differently. Some prioritize social apps without a VPN but do not guarantee ChatGPT; others explicitly support ChatGPT/TikTok/Gemini.

Why “China eSIM” is not one answer
Most visitor plans are roaming + international egress: you use mainland radio, while sites may see a Singapore IP or Hong Kong IP. That label drives how ChatGPT and TikTok are described.
Always check the carrier option you select—not only the product title.
Service expectations by egress type

ChatGPT: when is it more likely?
If ChatGPT is a must, confirm the option literally says it is supported, for example:
- China unlimited — CUCC+ (China Unicom): Singapore egress; ChatGPT/TikTok/Gemini listed; speed is about 1GB high-speed daily, then ~10 Mbps unlimited (high-speed segment often tens of Mbps in cities; after throttle roughly 7–12 Mbps—for reference only).
- China daily — Unicom GPT + TikTok: Singapore IP; ChatGPT/TikTok/Gemini listed; high-speed about 40–100 Mbps (4G/LTE), then typically ~128 kbps after the daily high-speed allowance (resets daily; checkout page wins).
- China total — Unicom CUCC (ChatGPT + TikTok): Singapore IP; most options list ChatGPT/TikTok/Gemini and hotspot; high-speed about 40–100 Mbps, then typically ~128 kbps on throttle plans (a few small-quota plans cut off when data is gone—check the day/quota label).

Hong Kong–IP Mobile options often state ChatGPT/TikTok are not guaranteed and point you to Unicom—that is by design, not a surprise failure on arrival.
Practical tips from product notes:
- ChatGPT is usually smoother on Apple; on Android try the web app
- Set the travel eSIM as the mobile-data line
- Turn off conflicting VPNs/proxies when testing
LINE, Instagram, Facebook
Most China / Greater Bay travel eSIMs say LINE/IG/FB generally work without a VPN on Singapore or Hong Kong egress. Remember:
- Mobile data must use the travel eSIM
- App accounts usually stay intact when you add an eSIM
- “Generally” is not an absolute guarantee for every location and hour
Google, Gmail, YouTube, WhatsApp
International-egress visitor eSIMs are commonly described as allowing Google, YouTube, Gmail, WhatsApp without a VPN (routing-dependent)—a major difference from many local mainland SIMs with domestic egress.

Pick options that list TikTok support (usually Singapore-IP Unicom). Product reminders often include: location off if advised, no simultaneous VPN, restart the app after connecting, and availability may still vary by device/platform.
