Scanning a QR code is usually the easiest way to install a travel eSIM. In real life, glare, focus issues, having only one phone, or a failed decode are common.
That is when the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code in your order email matter. Jeko’s install guide lists manual install as one of four supported methods.
This article explains what those fields mean, how they relate to the eSIM Profile and LPA string, and the usual iPhone / Android manual steps—using the same labels you will see in Jeko emails and the eSIM panel.
(Step-by-step: iPhone guide / full install & activation guide. Timing: when to install vs activate.)
QR scan and manual entry do the same job
Both paths download an eSIM Profile (digital SIM configuration) onto the device.
- QR scan: hands the phone “where to download + which profile” in one package
- Manual entry: you paste the server address and activation code separately
Manual install is a backup path—not a different kind of eSIM.
What is an SM-DP+ Address?
SM-DP+ stands for Subscription Manager – Data Preparation. Think of it as:
The server address that prepares and delivers your eSIM profile.
On Jeko it is labeled SM-DP+ address . It often looks like a domain such as rsp.example.com (use the value in your order).
During manual install, the phone must know which SM-DP+ to contact.
What is an Activation Code?
The Activation Code identifies which profile to download. SM-DP+ alone is not enough.
Jeko shows these fields when available:
- Order confirmation email (QR + manual install info)
- Thank-you / ticket page
- Member area and eSIM panel → Details
| Jeko label | Purpose |
|---|---|
| SM-DP+ address | Server that hosts the profile download |
| Activation code | Matches your specific profile |
| Android activation code | Fuller string some Android UIs accept (often LPA-related) |
| Full LPA | Standard combined string (usually what the QR encodes) |
| ICCID | Identifier for support/lookup—usually not required for manual install |
eSIM Profile and the LPA string
After download, the eSIM Profile appears as a line in Cellular / SIM settings.
A typical LPA format is:
LPA:1$〈SM-DP+ address〉$〈activation code〉
Fields are separated by $. QR codes usually contain this string. When available, Jeko may also offer official iOS/Android one-tap install links—open them on a phone; a computer cannot finish eSIM provisioning.
When to use manual install
- Camera cannot read the QR (glare, focus, distance)
- Only one phone—no second screen to display the QR
- QR decode keeps failing but email fields are complete
- Device policy blocks camera scanning but still allows manual entry
From Jeko’s guide:
If you cannot scan the QR code, choose “Enter Details Manually” and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code included in your order email.
Before you install (same as QR)
- Phone supports eSIM and is unlocked (dial
*#06#and look for an EID; see supported devices) - Stable Wi‑Fi (installing before departure is usually easiest)
- Copy-paste SM-DP+ / activation code—avoid typing by hand
- A profile/QR can usually be downloaded successfully only once—do not share it
- Install ≠ activate—you can leave data off until arrival (follow your plan’s validity rules)
iPhone manual install
- Open Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Service)
- Tap Add eSIM
- Choose Enter Details Manually instead of scanning
- Paste:
- SM-DP+ address
- Activation code
- Finish the download, then confirm the new line in Cellular
- Optional: label it (e.g. “jeko eSIM”)
If scanning works, you can also use Camera, Settings → Use QR Code, or touch-and-hold the QR in email—see the iOS guide and full guide.
Android manual install (typical path)
Menus vary by brand; the idea is the same:
- Open Settings → Network & internet (or Connections / Mobile network)
- Open SIMs / SIM manager / Download a SIM / Add eSIM
- Look for Enter manually / Need help / similar
- Paste either:
- SM-DP+ address + activation code, or
- the Android activation code / Full LPA if the UI wants one field
- Confirm the travel eSIM appears; turn its mobile data on after arrival
If your order shows a one-tap install link, open it on the Android phone—not on a desktop browser expecting the eSIM to appear.
| Situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| Clear QR + second screen | Scan or one-tap install |
| One phone / scan fails | Manual SM-DP+ + activation code |
| Android wants a full string | Android activation code / Full LPA |
| Reading email on a computer | Scan from the phone, or copy fields to the phone |
Troubleshooting
“Invalid address or code”
Check swapped fields, missing characters, or extra spaces. Copy from the email/panel buttons.
“Unable to add plan / already installed”
A profile can usually be downloaded only once. Moving from an old phone needs support/policy handling—you cannot reuse the same code on unlimited devices.
“Installed but no data”
Turn the line on, switch mobile data to it, enable data roaming if required, and set APN when the plan says so. Also confirm validity timing (install vs activate).
“Can I send the code to a friend to install for me?”
No. The activation code is the key to that eSIM—sharing it risks someone else downloading it first.
Bottom line
SM-DP+ Address = where to download. Activation Code = which profile. When QR scanning fails, copy both from your Jeko email or eSIM Details panel and use Enter Details Manually.
After install, follow your plan’s activation rules before turning data on. For screenshots, use the full install guide; browse plans in the catalog.
