Hotel area: which airport hurts less
- Siam / Asok / Sukhumvit: many travelers fly BKK, clear immigration, ride Airport Rail Link, then BTS—easy to remember.
- Silom / Sathorn: BKK still works with rail transfers; very late arrivals → Grab door-to-door.
- Khao San / old town: both airports usually end with a road leg; with big bags, don’t force multi-transfer heroics.
- Only 1–2 nights + red-eye: ask if the hotel allows early check-in before choosing a cheaper but farther airport.
How to choose when booking
- Lock your rough hotel area first
- Weigh the ticket price gap against extra city-access time and fare
- Big luggage, kids, or red-eyes: paying a bit more for the easier airport can save the whole day
- Prefer the same airport both ways; if you must split, leave traffic buffer
If the booking page only says “Bangkok,” open the details and confirm BKK vs DMK. Check the return too—people often get inbound right and outbound wrong.
Airport-to-airport: not a fake connection
BKK ↔ DMK is not a walk between terminals. You need the road, and peak traffic can take a long time. You also reclaim bags, re-clear security, and check in again. Self-connecting two separate tickets is high risk unless you leave a huge buffer and know the route.
If you must change airports: keep flexible timing, use Grab or airport buses, and never bet the next flight on “traffic will somehow be fine.”
